Political prisoners as individuals that are convicted and/or incarcerated in politically biased trials or executive decisions in the absence of any trials. Trials or executive decisions are deemed politically biased if they are endorsed by the government and (a) lack a domestic legal basis, (b) violate principles of procedural justice, or (c) violate universal human rights.
Political prisoners are almost always targeted under the pretext of breaking some law. It is very difficult for us to assess whether the reason used by the U.S. government to justify an arrest is a pretext to cover a political repression, or if it is part of systematic enforcement of the law. We use our best judgement but let us know if you think we have missed something.
